Eternum Energy becomes Solaris Offgrid

"Eternum Energy" becomes "Solaris Offgrid" to facilitate the identification of our value proposition to organizations looking for a (field) proven expertise they could adopt to increase energy access in their region.

Our flagship technology "Solaris" is now about to reach its 900th system installed in the off-grid countryside of the north of Tanzania, providing a modular access to electricity and a high quality after-sales service to nearly 5,500 people in 2016. Due to its growing impact, its demonstrated viability at a local stage and its unique features, the company has been facing plenty of solicitations to share such technology both abroad and within Tanzania. To fulfill this need of so many, in a quest for an integrated expertise that was carried by so little, we had to refine our positioning.

Thus, we decided to make the clear distinction between:

Our activity of "last-mile energy access operator" represented by Solaris Tanzania as a showcase of our expertise; And our activity of "designer of integrated solutions for a greater access to energy" that will be represented by Solaris Offgrid from now on, as a main engine of expansion of such expertise (already represented in 5 countries of Africa).

With Solaris Offgrid, we aim at increasing the readability of our offer to everyone interested by implementing a similar operational approach to the one show-cased in Tanzania:

The Solaris component of the brand represents our unique field experience with Solaris Tanzania that we proudly carry as a legacy, allowing us to understand our "field partners" better than anyone as we are an operator ourselves! The Offgrid component of the brand delimits our physical zone of action, the meta-industry we are bounded to and where our expertise mostly belongs.

With Solaris Offgrid, we aim at hacking access to energy issues by providing a unique integrated solution:

A hardware component that is scalable and can upgrade in alignment with the growing needs (over time) of a household; A software that is co-designed and inspired by last-mile decision makers from the bush of Tanzania;A field training (at Solaris Tanzania) and advisory component to be offered all along the growth curve of the field partners; Some match funding options with our upstream partners which are looking for further opportunities to contribute to the expansion of our approach.

A bit of our history (prior to 2016)

Eternum Energy has been created in London in 2009 with the initial intention to provide phone-charging stations for people in need of both sustainable energy and income generating opportunities to sustain their development in their off-grid village. After years of R&D, the company came up with a first version of the Solaris system that has been sold to local distributors to fulfill the energy and income generating needs of its customers.

In 2014, conscious that its first version of the Solaris wasn't complete to fully tackle the economic barrier preventing both field partners and their customers to acquire solar energy, Eternum Energy reoriented its approach by prototyping the integration of a "Pay-As-You-Go" dimension into its product line and by leading the distribution efforts with the establishment of its operational base in Mwanza, Tanzania. Such Tanzanian pilot mutated in February 2016 into "Solaris Tanzania", a proper last-mile distributor, to address both micro-entrepreneurs and individuals needs with the ambition of installing thousands of systems in the region of lake victoria.
